Chunking and Assembling

My coursemate Fynn and I got a new game console named GameShell. It is a sort of redefining portable game console. When we open the parcel, take out several plastic bags which contain the parts of a game console. We should assemble it by ourselves. It is really interesting.

GameShell has four main parts: screen part, main body part, keypad part and battery part. If you assemble these parts and link each other than you can fix all of them with the face cover and back cover and finish your game device. People call this kind of design as Module game device.

This module design has a benefit. You can change one module (one part) if you want in the case of upgrade your CPU or screen.

This kind of design inspires me a sort of method to design my game. The systems in my game will independent but linked by the narrative content. By doing this, these systems can not affect each other and could be much more easy to control. Secondly, these modules can be chosen by players to enjoy their game. It could be suitable for deferent kind of players, like battle-focusing players or farming-focusing players. A game shouldn't force players to do what they don't want to do.
